Commute Times with Traffic

Last updated: 2 November 2026

Commute Times with Traffic is a browser extension that displays live traffic travel times for the routes you save, and suggests when to leave in order to avoid heavy traffic. This page explains exactly what the extension stores, what it sends, and to whom. In short: your data stays between your browser and the routing provider you choose (Google Maps, TomTom or Mapbox), and nothing is sent to the developer.

What the extension stores

The following is saved in your own browser storage and is not accessible to the developer:

Preferences and routes may sync through Chrome's own sync storage, which means they follow your signed-in Chrome profile across your devices. That syncing is performed by Chrome, not by the developer.

What the extension sends, and to whom

To get travel times, the extension sends your saved routes to the traffic service you choose in Settings. It uses your own API key, and nothing passes through the developer.

The service can be any one of these:

Who receives your data: your main service, and your fallback service only if you set one up and the main one fails. No other third party receives it.

Location: only when you press the locate button does the extension read your device's approximate coordinates. They are compared on your device with the coordinates of your saved routes to work out which route is nearest to you. If a saved route uses a text address instead of coordinates, your coordinates are sent to your selected routing provider as the starting point of a single route measurement for that route. Your location is never stored, never logged, and never sent anywhere else.

No developer-operated server exists. The developer cannot see your routes, your location or your API key.

What the extension does not do

Your control

Children

The extension is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
